A Library for Photography

Zontiga Photobook Library is a growing reference collection dedicated to photography and the photobook. Located within Zontiga KL at GMBB, the library brings together photobooks, zines, journals, exhibition catalogues and other photography publications from Malaysia, Southeast Asia and around the world.

We believe photobooks are more than containers for photographs. The way images are selected, sequenced, printed, designed and bound can change how a body of work is experienced, offering another way to understand how photographs and ideas come together.

What began as a collection alongside Zontiga’s film lab, bookstore and photography space is now a dedicated reference library and an important part of how we engage with photography.

The library is a space for photographers, students, researchers, collectors and anyone curious about photography to spend time with books, discover unfamiliar work and encounter different ways of seeing, making and thinking about photographs.

The library is for reading and reference on-site. Books are not available for loan.

The library holds 500+ titles and continues to grow, spanning contemporary photobooks, historical works, artist books, independent publications, zines, journals, exhibition and festival catalogues, and books about photographic practice and ideas.

Rather than trying to define photography through a fixed canon, the collection reflects different photographic practices, geographies, generations and approaches to publishing.

Visitors are encouraged to browse freely, follow unexpected connections between books and spend time with works they might not otherwise encounter.

Using the Library

We want the collection to remain accessible while ensuring that the books can continue to be enjoyed by future visitors.

Visitors are welcome to browse and spend time with the collection. We simply ask that publications are handled with care and that visitors are considerate of others using the space.

Some rare, fragile or special materials may have additional handling requirements or restricted access.

Support the Library

Zontiga Photobook Library continues to grow through our own acquisitions as well as the generosity of photographers, publishers, collectors and members of our community.

Your support helps us continue building and caring for the collection, keeping it accessible to the public, and nurturing a deeper engagement with photography and the photobook.

Donate a Publication

We welcome donations of photobooks, photography publications, zines, journals and exhibition catalogues that can contribute meaningfully to the collection. Publications are considered according to their relevance to the collection, condition, existing holdings and available space.

Co-Donate a Book

You can also help grow the collection by co-donating a book from the Zontiga bookstore.

Use the code DONATE2LIBRARY at checkout to purchase an eligible book at 50% of its retail price, with Zontiga contributing the remaining 50%. The book will be added directly to the Zontiga Photobook Library rather than shipped to you.
