Rainbow Nights is a rare photographic document of Shanghai’s underground club culture, an intimate chronicle of spaces where identity, performance, and community briefly flourished after dark. Over many years, street photographer MI LU entered these transient interiors to capture the vitality of niche cultural groups whose presence often remained unseen within the city’s mainstream narrative.

Through candid, street photography inflected images, the book reveals a parallel urban universe inhabited by drag performers, queer communities, artists, intellectuals, and curious outsiders drawn to alternative forms of expression.
