Organised Scenery

MYR 195.00

Organised Scenery is a photographic exploration of picturesque landscapes within man-made parks. This collection of twelve images captures my personal experience with nature, where natural and artificial textures are thoughtfully arranged to create curated ‘natural’ spaces.

As urban dwellers, we often long for a connection with nature. The fleeting transition between these green spaces and dense cityscapes is reflected in the choice of chiffon as the printing medium. Its translucent, layered imagery invites both visual and tactile engagement, prompting us to question how nature is constructed within our urban environments and how these engineered spaces shape our perception of the natural world.

About the Artist

Xiang Yun LOH (b. 1988) is an artist and scientific botanical illustrator based in Singapore. Her work examines the ways people engage with nature, using drawing, painting, and photography to explore how urban landscapes are shaped and maintained. Through long-term projects that document and map plant life, she investigates the evolving ways we define and relate to nature.

Since 2018, she has worked as a scientific botanical illustrator for the Singapore Botanic Gardens, contributing detailed illustrations to floras, monographs, and new species descriptions, primarily based on dried and alcohol-preserved herbarium specimens. She is currently illustrating for Flora of Singapore, a decade-long project led by the National Parks Board (NParks) to document all plant species in Singapore, from mosses to flowering plants.
