Beginning with a disconnected phone number, this photobook explores lost connections, shifting memories, and the quiet act of observing people. We can never truly know what someone in a photograph is thinking, yet through curiosity and prolonged looking, imagination begins to emerge. Like noticing the loneliness of an empty glass, only to realise the emotion belongs to ourselves. Memory slowly seeps inward until it feels inseparable from the body, like a second skin.

This is a photobook that unfolds quietly over time. Rather than offering direct answers, Ahlum Kim invites readers into a deeply intimate space shaped by absence, tenderness, and emotional distance. The photographs carry a softness that lingers, reminding us how images can become vessels for memory, projection, and longing.

Born in Korea and based in Tokyo, Ahlum Kim began photographing seriously through the act of photographing a lover. Believing that human connection can soften anger and insecurity, her practice is rooted in observation, empathy, and the search for hidden narratives within people. Working primarily through portraiture, she approaches photography not as accumulation, but as a process of subtraction, gradually revealing what matters most through light, presence, and encounter.
