Hariban Award 2024 Catalogue
Hariban Award 2024 Catalogue
An integral part of Benrido Atelier’s mission is to preserve and advance the collotype tradition by collaborating with contemporary photographers. The HARIBAN AWARD is an annual photography competition that invites artists to reinterpret their work through this historic printing process.
The 2024 HARIBAN AWARD was awarded to Maja Daniels. Four special Juror’s Award winners were also selected: Dylan T Hausthor (by Clint Woodside), Janna Ireland (by Jess Baxter), Laura Koskinen-Bennett (by Tomoka Aya), and Birthe Piontek (by Markus Schaden). In addition, Anika Spereiter received the Benrido Award, while nine photographers — Tim Carpenter, Mario Lalau, Jack Latham, Thomas Nease, Alexandre Silberman, Caleb Stein, Chanell Stone, Ed Sykes, and Rodrigo Valenzuela — received honourable mentions.
All of these artists’ works are featured in this limited-edition, hand-printed collotype catalogue.
The 2024 jury comprised Tomoka Aya (The Third Gallery Aya, gallery owner and director), Markus Schaden (founder of schaden.com and Co-director of The PhotoBookMuseum, Cologne), Jess Baxter (Assistant Curator, International Art, Tate Modern), and Clint Woodside (photographer, curator, and founder of Deadbeat Club).
The result of meticulous craftsmanship and collaboration, this catalogue offers both a visual and tactile experience that bridges traditional technique with contemporary photographic practice. It is available in a limited edition of 150 copies, hand-printed on Japanese Gampi and Mitsumata washi paper.
