FOTM 2024 captures where it all began: a year-long challenge that invited photographers to shoot a different film stock each month. Moving from morning light to the fading glow of night, the book celebrates the distinctive moods, colours, textures, and emotions that make shooting film such a personal experience.
FOTM 2025: The Film Awakens continues the journey with a larger community and a new sense of discovery. Inspired by the spirit of Star Wars, the second edition brings together twelve months of photographs alongside five in-depth Field Notes interviews with Malaysian film photographers, offering a closer look at their cameras, films, practices, and reasons for continuing to shoot analog.
Together, the two books tell the story of FOTM as it evolved, from a simple monthly film challenge into a community built around photography, experimentation, conversations, photowalks, workshops, and the shared anticipation of waiting for a roll to be developed.
From the first frame to the next chapter, FOTM: Best Comes in Pairs is a two-book record of film photography in Malaysia, and of a community continuing to see, shoot, and create together.
