BETWEEN FORM & PRESENCE

Toh Ee Siew’s photographic practice has evolved across various genres, with street photography remaining at its core. In recent years, his work has moved towards fine art street photography, where light, shadow, geometry, and human presence become a visual language for examining the everyday.
BETWEEN FORM & PRESENCE brings together a body of work that looks beyond the documentary function of street photography. Through carefully observed compositions and the restraint of black and white, Ee Siew explores the relationship between form and presence, transforming familiar streets and architectural spaces into contemplative studies of stillness, rhythm, and subtle tension.
Human figures often appear small, distant, or transient within these environments. Yet their presence gives scale and emotional weight to the surrounding structures. They become quiet anchors within the architecture of light and form. At other times, presence is less visible, felt through an atmosphere, an absence, or the lingering impression of a moment that has passed.
BETWEEN FORM & PRESENCE offers more than a collection of street photographs. It invites readers to reconsider how they see the spaces they move through every day, finding beauty in overlooked details and meaning in the relationship between people and their surroundings.
