Making your B&W Contact Print

Now that you’ve got your negatives, what’s next?

Before you start printing in the darkroom, it is important to analyse your negatives and decide which frames to print. The contact print is the direct positive print of your negatives, which aids you in understanding the quality of your frames and reflect on the composition of your images.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • What is a contact print
  • How to make a contact print in the darkroom
  • What to look out for when selecting which photograph to print

Making your own contact print will also give you insight into the process of making a darkroom prints.

Prerequisite:

  • You are recommended to take the B&W Film Processing workshop prior to taking this class.
  • You will also need a set of B&W negatives (135 or 120) that can be used to make your contact print.
